Pros and cons of hammock camping-

Pros and cons of hammock camping-

 Pros:

1. Less weight and space. Imagine your going backpacking, you bring a tent, and a ground pad. think of how much space that takes up. A hammock and a rainfly would take up about as much space as your run of the mill ground pad would, and in about half the weight of a tent

2. Cost. Now this one depends on the brand you buy. I will recommend ENO as a startup brand. but I have seen people spend $200-$300 on a good tent. If you get the basics you could get buy with around $150 ish

3. Comfort. This is my preference. although this also relates to the cost aspect. if you buy a awesome ground pad thats super comfortable that will run you a pretty penny. you could add a easy $100 to your bill especially if you have a bad back. (if you have never slept in a hammock its quite good)

4. coolness. Only Badasses use hammocks

 Cons:

1. Space / privacy. Say you need to change on a trip? you can change in a hammock and if you have a rainfly you have some privacy but lets face it. its not comfortable to change in a hammock, squirming like an idiot. thats one occasion a tent would com in handy.

2. No room for gear. simple enough theres no where to put your gear. I put mine directly under my hammock but if i am on an incline water could run down and get my pack wet. ENO has a solution, called an under belly gear sling, (a mini hammock that goes under you to hold your pack) or you can use a good pack cover/ tarp.

3. The most obvious. THERES NOT ALWAYS TREES!!

so if you wanna sleep good, save money, be a badass, and you live in a heavily wooded area then you should consider switching.
